When you sweat, you don't only lose water but you also lose sodium and some potassium. These two minerals are very important. Sodium is incharge of your overall blood volume while potassium is one of the precursors to making your heart beat. When you excessively sweat and you replace it only with water, you only replace your water loss and not your sodium and potassium losses. This could result to excess water in the body while your sodium and potassium stores become slowly depleted. However some of the your food in your diet could also be silently replacing your sodium (salty-foods) and your potassium (high-fiber). But in your case since your job seems to call for it.. energy drinks are the best but never neglect water. With regards to what energy drink you could use, i would recommend gatorade.. read the labels. There are lots of energy drinks that are out in the market which are actually not energy drinks but are actually antioxidants which will just interrupt your job because it promotes urination and defecation. hope this helps. God bless you.. ^_^

If you do choose to drink Gatorade or Powerade.....do so sparingly, because just the opposite effect will occur. If you drink too much of these drinks, too many electrolytes flood the system causing water to be pulled out of the cells causing diarrhea which can cause dehydration. Gatorade alternated w/ water is a great source of hydration.

Yes, you lose very important things when you sweat a lot. Gatorade is one of those drinks that help you replenish your lost vitamins and minerals.

If you're sweating profusely for longer than a couple hours, you might. (Like if you're a roofer working in the midday Arizona sun or something like that.) Then, I'd drink some Gatorade or Powerade at least once a day or so. (Especially if you feel disoriented or lightheaded.)

yes you are becoming dehydrated, maybe wear a neck device that cools you at same time, and drink gatorade before work. It usually takes 20 minutes to kick in. Stay away from caffeine it will dehydrate you more
