A lot of things are on. For example, if you turn on the light switch, than the lights are on. If you turn on the TV button, than the Tv is on. The word on means: above and supported by, such as"The book is on the table." On also means against or upon. For example,"The picture is on the wall."On also means taking place, such as "The race is on."
