I'm curious, because I still love to go to concerts and dance and have a beer and other things I used to like to do when I was a 20-something. I don't mean that I show up at fraternity parties and get wasted...I just like to get out to the local watering hole and have fun from time to time. When you see people like me, do you say "hey, cool....I hope I'm still spunky when I'm in my 40's" or do you think "gosh....how pitiful ! She should just act her age!"

By the way....I'm only 43 if that makes a difference in your answer.

You know what I agree. If you can pull it off without trying to come across as a woman going thru a midlife crisis than thats cool. If you are being yourself and not acting dorky. I am 32 and when we go to bars, everyone thinks I'm about 24. I just go to have fun and don't try to be something I'm not.

First of all, LOL @ Jack Z III, who posted right above mine. Poor thing. I didn't know boys were so sensitive & easily made uncomfortable, but I suppose **sigh** it's good advice to remember.

Of your two choices, I definitely would go with "Hey cool..." and I don't think that's acting too young for your age. I'm about 10 years younger than you, and I've never considered 40 to be over the hill -- the closer I get to 40, the younger it sounds! ;-)

Maybe it's because I was raised by my grandparents, and they were good, moral, responsible people, but they always knew how to have fun & loved laughing & never acted "old" like some of their friends. Like the old saying goes, "Age is just a number." Everyone wears their age differently -- take two people the same age, and they'll be at different places in their life with different values and opinions -- one might be stuffy and reserved and think that's the way a person of their age should behave, while the other hikes their skirt up and says, "What the hell? I got the legs for it, why not?" LOL I'd rather hang out with the 2nd one and take turns buying shots! :-D

p.s. I really don't think you're old enough to be worried about this yet! Ask again in 20 years. ;-)

The funny thing is... it kinda depends on what you are wearing... OK, like if I saw a 40something out at a rock concert having fun, or at a party or a bar, I would think "that's awesome" UNLESS that 40 something was dressed like the 13year olds do nowadays... you know, too tight, waaay too much leg and cleavage and makeup. THAT 40-something warrants a "Pitiful." I am close to your age and I love all that stuff, too, and I've seen folks a wee bit older than me pull it off SO COOL and those that haven't. And the difference has always been the clothes! Party on, sistah!

Hey, Schleppy - I'm 47, work with all college kids and they all think I'm cool - most of them wish either that I was their mom or that their moms would be more like me...and a few of them keep hitting on me...can't handle the 20+ year age diff, though. My daughter, on the other hand, finds me to be an extreme embarrassment and tries to pretend that the parental unit does not exist - must have something to do with singing to the Muzak in the groc store.....her friends all think I'm cool, tho. We need to keep on doin' our thing and show these kids how it's done!

If you can pull it off good for you.. but most people over 40 who try to be cool are really lame and definitely not cool.

It's not socially normal because people over 40 should be parents by now, and have a career and strong relationships.

I am 40,and really do not care if younger people think I'm "old."
You are as old --or as young --as you feel.
I still enjoy concerts, etc. But with 4 kids,I have no time nor inclination to drink anymore.
My 15 year old daughter,my eldest child,REALLY thinks that I'm over the hill!So be it.I laugh it off!

I'm 22 and I hang out with my 40 year old Aunt all the time. We go to the bar, concerts, stand-up routines, etc...

It isn't the age- it is all about the attitude!

I'm a lot older than you and I still do most of the things I did when I was younger. Old isn't what it used to be. I'm hanging in here as long as I can - They have to take me kicking and screaming all the way!

that you're a person.

I don't think 40 is old. I see over 40s all the time at shows, some badass folks.

me and my friends are between 20-25......it depends if you have an older man with you , well a man you same age because i feel disgusted when an older lady trys to get me in bed... so as long as you have an older man with you , everything is cool... my brother was in a heavy metal band was having a show at a party and these two older ladies came made us all feel uncountable... because you have to remember, most of our parents are divorced and we can easily tell when older ladies are dressed to impress, and its just disturbing to me and my friends...
