Legally NO form can even ASK for your race, not even Government forms. If your answer is rejected they have already broken a federal law just by asking, color should NEVER matter and I have to add I love the answer you say you give, next time I get one of those forms, may I borrow your answer? It's by far the most honest and intelligent I've come across.

No it is fine. Since the 1940s, evolutionary scientists have rejected the view of race according to which a number of finite lists of essential characteristics could be used to determine a like number of races. Many evolutionary and social scientists think common race definitions, or any race definitions pertaining to humans, lack taxonomic rigour and validity. They argue that race definitions are imprecise, arbitrary, derived from custom, and that the races observed vary according to the culture examined. They further maintain that "race" as such is best understood as a social construct, and conceptualize and analyze human genotypic and phenotypic variation in terms of populations and clines instead. Other scientists, however, have argued that this position is motivated more by political than scientific reasons. There are often greater differences within a socalled race than outside. It would be good to move beyond race and color.

Almost everyone on Y!A will say it does not matter, these responses are not the norm. Frankly, I take these testimonies with a grain of salt.
Color matters in this country and in other countries racism has been exported to.
The federal government requires this information for employment purposes, and in medical situations it could affect the medications you receive or the diagnosis.
In some cases it's used for marketing purposes.

"American" is not a race. It is a nationality.
Almost all forms I have seen, selecting anything in race column is optional (ie. not required), and "other" is always an option.
I don't see any reason to be hysterical about this. There are many and different races. It has nothing to do with right or wrong. There just IS.

color doesn't matter. Its the mind which thinks all about this. every one is same for the nature. everyone breath same air, drink same water. its just because of weather and climate different color of people exist on earth. I never give importance to color of skin.

They are ignorant. I love all races including yours.
We must learn to drop the race differences if we're to all get along!
