Changes come around real soon, make us women and men. Life gets away on us. I know, I am looking in the eyes of my new grandson, wondering will he grow up as quickly as my kids did. First, we help them with the few halting first steps, potty train them and send them off to their first day of school. Then we watch as they struggle to stay at the top of the heap while they are in grade school, and turn indifferent when they hit their teens. Then, we are only good to teach them to drive, that licence is their wings. They begin to be at home less and less. Choose the company of friends over ours. We start to chase after them the way they chased us to play ball after supper, they way they chased us to have a tickle fight on the carpet in the "family' room. Their interests change from the coolest 'gotta-have-it-or-I'll-die' toy to that girl or fella that they have to go to the prom with. Before you know it, they are graduating from college, getting married and having babies of their own. They take on a new life and we are holding their babies, looking back wondering where does the time go.

Um... Enjoy 16, enjoy being under age still, but look forward to the 20s and the life you will hopefully lead.
I remember that song on before I was even 16 and later liked finally being the age in the song...that was at least 12 years ago. How old is this song really? It's like timeless.

Suckin' on chili dogs outside the tastee freeze. Diane's sittin' on Jackie's lap, he's got his hand between her knees. Jackie say, "Hey Diane let's run off behind a shady tree. Dribble off those Bobby Brooks, Let me do what I please." And Jackie say, "Oh yeah life goes on. Long after the thrill of livin is gone."

Jack and Diane are in their 50's now. He's a retired firefighter and she does gardening and quilting. And they hate that song. So do I. Thanks for putting it in my head!

I'd tell them the same thing I told Billy Joe and Bobby Sue: Take the money and run.

I personally found seventeen to be a better age than sixteen. Not that I have been either age anytime recently.
I think that Desiderata http://marilee.us/desiderata.html says it better than I can ever hope to.
