Besides practice the only way to become a GREAT dancer is to BE YOURSELF! Let everything go and just release your spirit! If you relax into the movement and really FEEL it- you will have that wonderful "high" feeling of elation. Don't focus so hard on movement, you will look like a robot. Own the movement, make it yours and set yourself free! Enjoy dance. It was meant to be enJOYed!

Besides practice? Love what you do! If you really love it, you'll truly shine. Dance is not just about flawless technique, it's about projection. Feel it, love it, then share it with the world. That's what I've always told my own students. And, for heaven's sake, don't compare yourself! Dare to be your very own unique, special self. Compete only against yourself, making it your goal to be better each and every time. A true dancer knows that her art must never be submitted exclusively to the physical realm.

The way not to get better at anything is to cheat, or evenstop what you're doing. But yes practicing does help, and most people don't realize there are plenty more ways to get better at dancing, or anything really. You could start taking more classes, dance to a wide varity of styles, watch dance programs, movies or whatever, watch plays, musicals- sounds stupid but it's what helps most people express themselves and that's exactly what dancing is! Get in the best shape posible and stay that way, work out- as in relaxing thing to loosen up your muscles. Watch yourslelf on a tape- like a recital vhs/dvd or record yourself- and see what you could improve on and work on that and then work on everything else, go over key "steps," like in jazz those steps are like the basics of dancing! I hope this helps!

I think you have a choreographer from the way your questions sound. Just ask him or her what you can do to improve your style. You might even ask them to give you better dances, and teach you better moves! I wish you luck in becoming one of the best dancers! By the way, do you take dance lessons? If so, what is the studio name?

It's not clear from your question whether you take private lessons. They can be very expensive, but they can also be unbelievably valuable. Find a teacher you click with well. A few minutes can be amazingly helpful. You will need someone who understands your level and is well above it, and someone who understands where you are headed with your dancing (performance, competition, etc.). It may also help to set up certain performances or sign up for competitions so you have specific goals to work toward.

well, you can start off by looking at dancing shows on t.v. or rent some dancing tapes. and study them every day but take a break after every section of the dance. or start looking for private dancing sessions so you can get a head start.
