Definitely 7! They all went downhill from there. Better graphics and stories, but the gameplay was terrible! 10 was cool in that I loved the experience setup, but I hated the weaponry. FF7 had it all! Great weaponry (that actually got better as you upped your lvl), the materia idea was completely original and awesome, and it was easy to get the hang of the game. However, HATED the music from FF7, though! Still makes me hostile when I hear that stupid victory music! lol. It's probably from hearing it waaaay too much while playing. My husband still plays the victory song on his computer sometimes just to get to me. lol. But 7 was by far the best! :D
Favorite character is Vincent Valentine from FF7! I love the dark, mysterious characters! Favorite villain was Sephiroth, hands down. FF never made such a bada** villain again! The final boss battle vs Sephiroth was (and still is) my all-time favorite final battle. The music absolutely rocked! For a long time, I had a save-game right before the opening of the final battle so that I could play it over and over. So glad they made the movie!!

I think 8 was my favorite... 9 was a little too cartoonish and seven, while terrific, didn't have the same polish that 8 had, plus I loved that card game... I ended up spending more time doing that than playing the game. I never had such a feeling of accomplishment as I did after killing a neeslug too.

FF5 was the first FF game with the fully polished job system they latter carried over to tactics. In addition it had the expansive epic story of a Final Fantasy game without the endless idiotic subquests and minigames that became more and more prevalent after it.
FFI is also simply classic. I've owned it on every system it was released for and I never get tired of playing it.

FF8 is my absolute favorite with 10 in second place followed by 7. I've played all of the FF games in the US so far and can't wait for FF3 on the Nintendo DS.

hmmmm. The first Final Fantasy I played was the first one--I still remember FFVI and what splendid soundtrack it had, and the mood was incredible. FFVII did a swell job as well. Which one, undecided still.
