Why men claim they are the best at directions?

They say they can go anywhere without getting lost, and when they do get lost they get angry when you tell them to ask for directions.

Seriously now, what is up with all of the sexist answers. This is a generalization, and while I'm not denying that there are individuals that have trouble with directions, it is not specific to men.
Now back to the question. Though I'm not a psychologist or anything I would say the reason many people say that is because they want to impress you or seem like they are better than they are. They get angry when you tell them to ask for directions because it is often taken as an insult, and that you do not trust in them and their abilities.

And to basha1939, that is not why men are considered heads of families. It is because the society we live in started out as a Christian/Catholic based system, and men are considered to be dominant as the woman was the one who brought sin upon this world. Also, because woman were created from man, Adam's rib.

Maybe they don't like asking for directions because the one's they usually get don't make sense. I am very good with directions and the one time I did get lost in Chicago I asked for directions and I think they told me the wrong directions on purpose not once but three different places on the same day. I had to break down and buy a map. I lived in Chicago at the time. I have a friend who can't tell which way is up in his car but me... I know how to get to places with just an address. It's not an ego trip. It's just that I do it all the time. I think this whole subject is just some stereotypical BS that someone started based on stereotyping.

Women are better at this than men. If you give directions to a man you must tell him: Go straight up this road, and when you get to the end of the road, turn left or right and that's it (no other turns please, because I might get lost). Women: Go straight up this road, and when you get to the end of the road, turn left, when you see a beauty parlor, turn right, then turn left when you see a church, then right at the school and you when you see a toy store turn right, go straight and turn left at the light. She will get there, for sure, no matter how complicated the directions.

it is humorous how some human beings talk about how adult males and females advanced as in spite of the indisputable fact that we belong to distinct species. considering features that is functional to adult males may also be functional to females many of the time and vice versa, i imagine we are ninety 9.9% similar before cultural conditioning kicks in. My journey is that i'm a awful route-giver, and that i do no longer understand which way is north, yet placed me contained in the motive force's seat, and that i hardly wander away. (If somebody else is utilising even as i attempt to furnish instructions, we are doomed.)
