No. It's not that.
It's just that we KNOW everything. LOL !!!! JUST KIDDING! LOL! Really.
I have asked 7 questions I'm one of those "Power Answers", Yahoo describes.
We just know a lot, probably because we have always loved to read and learn.
When we watch TV, it is informative.
Movies? True stories.
We live inside of dictionaries and encyclopedias.
Honestly, though, MOST of the questions that you normally read on here we can answer.
We just can't think of that many things to ask, that we don't already have the answer to and when we DO think of something, MOST people don't know the answer to that question either.
The points don't really mean that much, other than they give us special privileges.
We probably share the same thing in common. We love to help people by answering their questions.
SO many people get bad or wrong answers.
We like to set the questioner straight.
About "not asking questions because we lose 5 points" is moot.
As soon as we answer 3 questions(which can take anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes, we made SIX points. One more point than we had before we asked the question.
Another thing, while I've been typing this, I was just notified, that I had been chosen for another best answer.
That makes the 3rd time today. 30 points, plus the thumbs up adds up quickly.
Just this week, I have made 1,042 points without even trying.
It's not the points that I want though.
They just give them to us!
It keeps us busy.

I can only speak for myself, though there are many people with a lot more points than I have. A lot of the questions people ask here are things that could be answered with a little time spent searching with google (my own personal favorite search engine). That sort of question I prefer to answer for myself. And then when someone asks a question that requires serious thought, they frequently get a lot of smart-aleck answers. I find that annoying, even though I'm not the one doing the asking. Also, I've realized that for the most part, if it isn't factual information people want, it's validation of their own point of view. For that sort of question, I prefer to discuss the problem with people I know whose judgment I trust. Nevertheless, I find that by reading lots of Q&A's, I can see what attitudes lots of people take on lots of issues.
And then there's the fact that I'm a librarian by training, so I'm just picking up where I left off when I retired from that job by helping people answer questions.
As for the points... I suppose they motivate in some small way, but I'm well aware that I'm not actually going to win anything for them, so they don't really matter much in the final analysis.

I have alot of points. There are a couple reasons why I don't ask many questions. The main reason is that I don't really have "questions" to ask. And the other is when I do have a question there is usually similar questions that have already been asked. So I read through those questions/answers and MY question gets answered that way. During that process I end up scoring more points because I end up rating best answers or voting for a best answers. If a question comes to mind and I don't have time to "search" for the answer I ask it. That usually happens in the early morning or right before I sign off this site.

I ask questions sometimes, but for instance, a few minutes ago I was going to ask a question, but then 5 questions popped up that were pretty much the same thing, so I just read the answers and now I don't need to ask the question anymore. It's as simple as that.

personally, I like answering and giving my 2 cents. I dont do this because of the points, the points are a consequence. If i did have a question, I'd look it up in an encyclopedia, or ask someone I'd trust, i certainly would never trust someone I dont know. Besides, this place is called Yahoo answers, not yahoo questions.

I don't have thousands of points, but the reason I don't ask questions is, I really enjoy answering them. Not that I'm smarter than anyone else, I just really enjoy it. Maybe in a little way, I can make someone feel better about themselves, or make someone smile. That may sound cheesy, but it's true.

I can't speak for others, and I hardly have a huge pile of points, but for me, I answer questions rather than asking because I'm just so wise and wonderful that it would be a true crime against humanity for me not to share the glorious bounty of my knowledge and segacity with those less well endowed.
Yes my, er, wisdom is bigger than yours.
(Actually, it's because I'm too stupid to think up questions, but I prefer the first answer. It makes me feel better about being dumb as a box of thumbtacks.)

I ask a question when there's something I don't know, can't find the answer, or when I'm looking for suggestions from other people. I enjoy the mental exercise of answering other people's questions more than asking questions.

I think so, maybe they know where to find their answers before coming on here! Or they just want to be smart azz know it alls, but I personally don't have many points because I don't mind asking questions when I don't know. They just want all the points, maybe it's the fact they want to know what happens if they've got loads or they want the credit so people trust their answers?
