I know this person who has no money at all, and no income coming in. They act like a total snob. Everything has to be perfect and their way only. Maybe this is a cover up for being so poor. I don't know, but it is very annoying.

In my mind its not ok for anyone to act like a snob...dirt broke or stinkin rich. no one person is better than another.we are all made of the same stuff n we could all learn to be better people by showing a little kindness and compassion instead of rudeness and ugliness. :)

Yes. Being snobby isn't about money, or wealth, it's about quality of life and standards, if someone for instance has little money, works three jobs in the week and at the weekends, obsesses over a clean house and enjoys hygiene and enjoying life in the best possible way, it is then possible that they would be considered a snob. A snob is someone who knows what they want and usually has to work hard in order to get that, being snobbish is not a bad thing, snobbery is a quality that people have when they are certain of the life they want to live and choose to stick by. Being snobby is a good thing.... but i would say that i'm a snob

It's not OK and off course is a cover up for being poor. Having no money and acting like a snob just makes you some ridiculous idiot walking around.

This is a defense mechanism. Ignore it. It isn't actually OK to act like a snob even if you have lots of money.

No one should behave like a snob, regardless of financial status. However, we should recognize that a snobby behavior may be an attempt to compensate for a shortfall, such as financial, shyness, insecurity, etc. One should not show pity, but try to be understanding. As long as it does not impact your life, don't bother to think twice about it.

Believe it or not, there are other bases than financial superiority to inspire snobbery. And there are reasons why those who have almost infinite wealth should be humble.

But as long as there are dumb people in either group, somebody is ALWAYS going to play the role of top dog.

Let 'em.

Snobbery and money have absolutely no absolute connection. It's just that many shallow-minded people who do have money, or think they have "big money" take on a "snobbish" personality. The person you're referencing may be appearing snobbish in a money-related way, like wearing cheap but garish clothing and "jewelry" and a "fancy" car, but snobbery has a lot to do with a person's desire for perfection in one or more areas of their life. People who do strive for perfection in some area or areas of their life, do so with an intolerance for imperfection in those areas, and in people who do show imperfection in those areas. They show that intolerance because they are very aware of their own imperfection in that area of their life, and they are trying like all get-out to get rid of that imperfection. A great example of that is America's famous World War II general George Patton. He came from a wealthy family with an extensive military history. He was deathly afraid of not "measuring up" to his family history in the military, and also he was keenly afraid of his own fear of death and injury in war. And, to make matters worse, he had a very high-pitched, "un-masculine" voice, and people kidded him about that in his youth. As a result, we had a young man "hell-bent" to be a "general's general" and prove to be the bravest, meanest, toughest military leader in our country in WWII, and in his military exploits prior to WWII. He was snobby, in his military role, and he would not tolerate effeminacy or cowardice out of any of his soldiers. The movie "Patton" starring George C. Scott is a wonderful portrayal of the man, and if you see it, you'll see the snob running all through the movie, and you'll see his HUGE SUCCESS as a military leader of our country in WWII. He did also have a lot of money to support his snobbishness, but it was his striving for perfection in many areas of his life that made him a snob. The money just put a shine on it all. Just a thought here about snobbishness. All my words aren't to say your assessment of the individual you are speaking of are incorrect. It's just another way to look at it so it may help you cope with that person. God Bless you.

No, it isn't ok, but people are crappy sometimes. I think it is their way of making up for feeling insecure. I don't know though....I think everything has to be perfect and my way (most of the time), but I'm not snobby. Just bossy! Lol!!!!

It doesn't matter how much money you have shouldn't be a snob.
