It doesn't mean a thing. It was a dream and dreams don't mean anything. If you dreamed you killed your family, would that mean you're going to have a child next week? No... it might mean you're angry at someone, but really, duh.

This is an absolutely fascinating dream from several perspectives.

Without diverging off course too much from the dream, let me briefly explain a bit about dream analysis itself.

There are almost as many methodologies for interpreting dreams as there are dreamers. Psychologically, spiritually, prophetically, symbolically - the modalities are multiplicitous - and it is best perhaps for each individual to determine what feels right to him, as the cosmos teaches each of us in ways that we can best relate our own paths to.

I personally ascribe to dreaming as a sort of canvas of the soul, upon which many things can be painted for differing reasons. It's why it's particularly important to be able to personally listen and talk through the dream with someone when I'm performing an analysis - and your dream offers the perfect example as to why: Different symbols mean different things to different people - even has some symbols share a commonality within the collective consciousness.

Jung, who formulated the tern 'collective consciousness', proposed that the average dream is similar in structure to a drama, comprising of four distinct stages:

(1) 'Exposition' - The opening scene which introduces place, characters and the situation that the dreamer will face (an issue or problem expressed metaphorically).

(2) 'Development' - The emergence of the plot.

(3) 'Culmination' - Something significant happens, the main character responds.

(4) 'Lysis' - The conclusion of the dream. The ending of the dream is regarded as the most important stage. It signifies how the dreamer might deal with the problem or issue that was expressed in the first stage (exposition). In essence, the dream-work creates a solution or result for the dreamer.

This framework of thinking can be very helpful ongoing if you care to learn more about your own psyche through the aspect of dreams.

So, back to your own dream. FIghting butterflies to protect your friends. Firstly - I would have to know what your relationship was to butterflies. Like birds, they evoke many different reactions - some people are terrified of them, while others are completely enamoured.

Based on the way you've worded things, I'm going to assume that you aren't particularly one way or the other about them - and that at the least, you aren't terrified by them. This is revealed in the fact that your second sentence clarifies that they were 'ugly butterflies and moths' - as if we would not have expected that, and thus - why it was surprising for you in the dream.

The basis of this dream takes place at night - where all souls are primally wired to be at their most alert - danger lurks at night. Things and shadows wait.

You were in the business of protecting your friends from these unexpected creatures at night. My speculation is that you are that sort of friend who is always taking care of the others - particularly in your mind - trying to avert troubles, problems. Helping them, or at the least, very much wanting to.

That they were unexpectedly horrible (because one would expect butterflies to be something pleasant) means that you fear there is danger lurking in something unexpected. I wonder if you don't worry more than others your age- or if a new situation has presented itself that everyone else is all gung ho over - but you are just not entirely comfortable with.

A last but interesting point - from the collective conscious perspective - a butterfly is the symbol of the psyche or soul. That lends another dimension to things entirely if there are new friends in the picture that seem to be all apples and roses on the outside, but you are intuiting something different within.

At any rate, you are a protective and good friend. My advisement would be to trust your conscious intuitions but at the same time, try not to worry over thing too much, particularly if that is something you are prone by nature to doing.

Chrysallisically,

www.dreammoods.com is a good source but i would have to say that if you're protecting people you care about, there may be more to it. do you always feel like you're protecting these specific friends? or, did something happen between you and these friends that you might feel bad about? most of the books on dreaming say that other people are really just reflections of you, so it may just be "you" that you were protecting. if you have a lot going on in your life right now or have things "bugging you", it may just represent you protecting yourself. i once had a dream about my daughter drowning when she was just a little girl and it bothered me so much. i tried hard to figure out why i would dream something like that but after reading about dreams i realized she was only a representation of me and i felt like i was drowning because i was a single mom with too many bills and an equal amount of responsibility. it must have really bothered you to post it on here so i would just start to evaluate what's going on with you first and if it doesn't make sense to you, then start trying to figure out why you would feel the need to protect these certain friends. hope it helps!

Dude grow the **** up. Honey check out www.dreammoods.com
Yes 63 dreams do have meaning. The meaning may be more symbolic than literal, but the fact is they all mean something. Where the hell do you think dreams come from....you're subconscious mind. Next time you have a dream look up the meaning and you will see that in some way the meaning of it does coinside with something that is going on in your life.

Let me analyze the dream

Butterlies and Moth are the insects that are changed from one stage to another.

In you case, you are protecting your frined from those "CHANGES". In other words, you are unwilling to accept changes.

Does anything happen lately to you about some sort of changes, job changes, school, studies, move? Maybe you should adapt to it.

Subconsciously in you dream, you say to yourself you are protecting you friends. Actually, you are trying to tell yourself that you don't want changes. And you forsee those changes are ugly which means not to your likings.
