Some of the people answering your question think you are asking about the definitions of pimp & hoe, but I think you mean something else -- correct me if I'm wrong -- I think what you're asking is not why they're called those terms, but why some people think it's more acceptable for men to sleep around than it is for women -- as in, if a woman sleeps around, she has loose morals and are thought of as low class and called "hoes" but when a man sleeps around, he's thought of as a stud, a player, and he's called a pimp and admired like he's the big man in control who snaps his fingers & the chicks come running.

If I've interpreted it correctly, here's my answer: sexism is a live and well, that's why. This is not to say everyone thinks that way, but a lot of people still do believe that old double standard that "boys will be boys" (and as another person said on this board, most guys are obsessed with sex and desperate without it, if you believe the stereotype...) and girls should be nice, good, pure, coy, and moral -- note that the definition of what is moral is applied differently to women and men. Why? Because the power structure has always been male dominated, and manipulating a person's reputation is a means of control.

I also see a difference in that a woman is expected to prove her ability to be faithful before marriage, and guys will determine the risk of her cheating after marriage based on how much she sleeps around when she's single. Men, on the other hand, aren't held to this standard of faithfulness until after marriage, which is sort of unfair in a way -- because they're allowed to act a fool when they're young & single, then with no practice being moral and faithful, they're expected to flip that switch and be faithful while married. I mean, I think everyone, male and female SHOULD be faithful, but I just think it's odd that adolescence & single adulthood socializes women to be good faithful wives (and some still can't manage it), and yet it sets men up for a big shock when they're expected to be good faithful husbands. Fortunately, there are great people who don't fit this theory at all, but unfortunately, there are some losers who fit it perfectly!

I think that most men & women know sleeping around isn't really good morals and is actually shows a lack of self control. However, as long as the men who do it (and by this I mean SOME not all men!!) feel that society approves or allows it, they will continue to do it. Although gender equity has come a long way, men still have an upper hand so ... almost everyone, even slutty guys, want to marry someone nice and moral and if not virginal at least not slutty ... so women who sleep around will continue to be looked down upon for as long as it takes for this old fashioned notion to fade out of society, and considering how long it's been around, I'd guess that to be several more generations from now.

Because as a species men are insecure despite their outer persona. That's why they feel the need to put down a woman who sleeps with a lot of men and also the reason they get and give eachother "props" for doing the same. I don't see why we have to degrade eachother with name calling anyway. To each their own. If it isn't my man or woman that's sleeping around I don't care. This is an age old question that will be going on until the end of women and men.
