An automotive starter might fit and work but:
It is not made for a wet environment- so it may corrode.
The bilge on a boat has gas fumes that can explode if there is a spark.
Marine starters are sealed so there is no sparks.

Boats need boat parts because of the water thing. Don't think it is a good idea even if it should fit and initially work. Just a matter of time before H2O gets inside.

That depinds , if gm or ford engine probably yes . The marine starters and alternators are either sealed or have spark arrestors and not recomended for marine use. I have even installed car motors in boats with no problems.
