do they make once they become a partner?

Depends on how much the firm's profits are. Also there are grades of partnerships. At a large top 100 firm, a partner of 5 to ten years makes about a half a million. More senior partners, more money. Mind you, it is not the way it used to be anymore, partnership is not guaranteed anymore even if you pay your dues, i.e. "do your time."

At a top 100 firm... about a million bucks
Smaller firms don't release much info making it hard to tell
