In the game's manual they mention 'House Rules' I believe at the start of the game you place $100 in the middle and then it collects over time from Getting out of Jail and I think other payments from chance cards or Income Tax. When a player lands on Free Parking then they receive that money in the center and another $100 bill is placed there.

I can't remember if we just added more money in or if the House Rules mentioned doing that.

Its just an additional way of playing and you can change the rules how you want. I think it might be different for others.

100% absolutely not. The "money on free parking" rule is probably the most common house rule ever invented, so much so that many people don't realize that it is not. If you read the rules to the game, however, they explicitly mention that this is not the correct rule.

In my humble opinion, the game of Monopoly is boring enough that its one saving grace is that, when played by the rules, it is over within an hour or so. If you pump more money into the economy using this house rule, the game will go on for three to five hours of tedious pain.

Please don't play this way.

And by the way, if you are looking for a better finance game, fifty times better than Monopoly, try playing Acquire.

No, not when you're paying in tournaments, however, some people play, where if you pay income tax, or luxury tax, the money goes to the center of the board, and then if you land on free parking, you get the money, but it's not a regulation in tournament monopoly.

The way my friends and I play, is when you are charged for something on the board like Income Tax or Luxury Tax, the money goes into the middle of the board. Then the player who lands on Free Parking gets the money.
Sweet deal!!

I don't know the 'official' rules but as a kid we always put 500 dollars in the center and whenever anyone landed on the Free Parking space, they got the 500 dollars. I have also played where all utilities paid went in the center as well - I think I only play that way with my family though.

Some people make up there own rules, but if you read the instructions you don't get money for landing on free parking.

well if you go by the actual rules of the game then no, but we play it that way, we put $50 in the middle and keep adding to it when we have to pay for the stuff that we get on the cards. but everyone playes it different. we call ours drunkin Monoply. cause we are usually drinking when we play it with our friends. It makes for a good game
