I accidently backed over my neighbors 4 month old kitten. I heard the squeal so I got out, noticed that it was my neighbors kitten, panicked and threw it over the fence into my backyard where my dog wasted no time in devouring it. Its been about a week and a half and my neighbor, who is a 68 year old woman, still calls for her kitten all the time. She puts food out for it and still changes its water. Everytime I see my neighbor she asks me, "Have you seen boots?" "No, not today" I reply and continue on with my business. Should I tell her?

To be honest, at this point she is gonna seriously wonder what took you so long to tell her, but yeah I would tell her. I imagine if someone killed your dog on accident you would want to know right? Just go over to her and say something like "I am really sorry, I felt too bad to tell you this, but I accidentally ran over your kitten, he didn't suffer, it was quick and I buried him (sounds better than I let my dog eat him). Also I would offer to pay for a new kitten and some food (since she has wasted a bunch on your mistake). No one likes to keep wondering what happened to a pet, its better to know that they are dead then to keep hoping. If you are too scared to tell her the truth, make up a story about how you saw the kitten the other day, farther up the road and it had been hit by a car. Really anything that will let her move on and grieve for her pet. Also, as a side note, kittens shouldn't be removed from their mother until they are at least 8 weeks old so they learn to socialize properly.

OMFG! Do you have no remorse? I hope like he11 you are asking this question for shock value! Not only should you come clean to your neighbor for what you did...all of it not the sugar coated "opps I ran over your kitten" but you should definitely pay restitution!! and if I were the ASPCA you'd be coming up on charges! Throwing that kitten over to your dogs, if it was still alive, is Cruelty to Animals and you go to jail for things like that. Not to mention your dogs should be removed and put down if they're that vicious that they will "devour" any animal that hits their side of the fence. There's a special place in hell for people like you!

go tell her what happened. What kind of person lets a poor old lady believe her kitten is still alive and running about? tell her you r sorry, and you were just scared so you buried the kitten. She has no need to know that you threw it over to the dog. SOME PEOPLE!!!!

Whoa, this is hard. I am sorry that that happened. But I think you should be honest with her and tell her what happened. Now when she wants the kitten back so she can bury it, I don't know what you will do then. Maybe you should just tell her the whole story or at least as much as you have to tell her.

You should Go get another kitten and put it by the food that she puts out.
It doesn't matter what color it is because I'm sure she would like it!
You don't have to say anything.
You're not a bad person because it was an accident!

don't tell what you did, but go get her a new kitten. Tell her you saw the kittens body in the street, it must have been hit by a car or something.
Don't tell her you did it or she'll hate you and it will just hurt her more than she is already and you have to live next door to her...

No. It would just make her feel worse. Eventually she'll think it got lost, and at least she'll have the hope that is was adopted by another family. Don't make her feel guilty for letting the cat outside or something.

I know it may be hard but you have to tell her the truth...it will eat you up inside....if you canno bring yourself to do it at least try to get another cat for the poor lady, older people are more sensitive about these things they do not feel they have that much left to live for or care for let her know the truth and make up for it....or let it eat you up inside.Chose.
