I use Firefox so I can turn off pop-ups. My Dad uses Internet Explorer on a Windows 98 machine. How do I turn off pop-ups on his PC?

IE does not have the ability to do that as a single option
if you go into tools -> Internet Options -> Security ->
Custom Level and scroll down to almost the end of the list you will see three listings under the heading of scripting
Active scripting
Allow paste operations...
Scripting of Java applets..
just disable all of those and popups should go away.
but this will also cause some sites not to work.
why not use Opera, the best browser that most people aren't aware of.
www.opera.com and set opera to block unwanted popups.

Tools > Pop-Up Blocker
Download the latest updates for IE or Windows.
Also, tell him to use Firefox.

u must use pop up blockers
download one of them and install it
because his OS is 98
so go to a site like:
www.download.com
and search for a pop up blocker
and download the one that is compatible with windows 98

Download one of the many toolbars that block popups (Internet Explorers does it by itself in the latest version)

You need to upgrade his computer. As of this month, Microsoft no longer supports Win 98.

You can get him to start using other browers, like Opera or Firefox. :)
However, I failed at doing so for my father. :(
Anyway, try installing some toolbars that have popup-blocking build into it. Namely, Yahoo toolbar and Google toolbar.

If he has Yahoo messager...Theres a yellow box next to search box....This will turn ON AND OFF pop up blocker....

you would need to download either,google or,yahoo tool bar,,both them have popup blockers..Windows 98/98se dosen't have a popup blocker built into them
