What would you do if you feel that you hate who you are as a person, but if you change yourself now you would probably be ruining your future for the next 10 years at least.

if you can't even imagine the situation then you probably shouldn't answer. This is the philosophy section.

The world judges us based on our material and external appearance. If you used the characteristics that you hate to succeed then if you change that then you'll risk losing everything you gained.

I was caught in a similar situation and still am. All I can probably say is that the most important thing seems to be to be true to yourself and the rest will take care of itself. If you are being true to yourself, how can your future be ruined..perhaps you will lose what you have gained through things that you hate, but you will feel free again. You will also know that you are not living a life of deception and offering the world what it needs, by ignoring your true self. Your self respect is more importrant than any material external standards this world has imposed. I read once a quote that went something like this "what good is it to gain the world at the expense of your own soul" Bottom line is -you cannot enjoy what you gain, if you gained it by not being yourself. It makes you feel like a fraud, at least it made me feel like one.

The main question is who are you and why would changing yourself ruin your future? Wouldn't you rather be happy with yourself and perhaps choose a different path for your future.
My answer to you: First define what it is about yourself you hate. Then decide what is more important to you: being happy or some intangible future that may or may not come to pass.
What Would I Do???
If I hated some "thing" about myself that I could change, I would, no I DID! I just went through a 5 1/2 year relationship that ended because I became someone I hated, fixing that required ending that relationship. It affected my future, by requiring some financial maneuverings to keep a roof over my head etc. But I am a much happier person and no longer want to end my life over the bad person I hated -ME.

Your Q makes no sense. Change the person you hate and ruin your next 10 years? How is hating yourself for 10 years NOT ruining your future?
Human beings can change. It's their greatest asset.
And if you're a person YOU hate, you're also a person other people hate. Don't be that guy.

I'd write down the specific things about my personality I dislike. Then I'd decide which one I want to change first. It's difficult but can be done. The difficulty is finding the motivation within yourself. If you're sick and tired of who you are only you can change "who you are". Don't be concerned about ruining your future as life comes one day at a time.

I suppose that would depend on your age. If you were 70-80, then you probably would have only a few more years to live, so maybe it wouldn't be worth it.
I'm assuming that you are younger. What is 10 years compared to your entire life? I think that I would do what it takes right now to make sure that I could still live with myself years from now.

I think I would try and change whatever it was that I hated about myself. I don't understand why changing who you are would ruin the future unless you mean job wise then I would much rather loose my job if that's what it took for me to make myself like who I am.

I Would never hate myself because of WHO I am because I had nothing to do with the fact of my being here. I can only use what I have to work with to try and improve my circumstances enough to get me where I know I should be. Every life is priceless.

that what you consider not, actually is your self-esteem. You estimate yourself not to be worthy. Such a rubbish. You are a human being affected by external cliches of what is legislated to be "right"...Drop that models. There is no models for you will get you out of self inflicted pain. You are the one who can re-estimate your existence in positive terms. Go for it...you are worthy...just on another side of a vector. Underestimate yourself. There is plenty of those who overestimate themselves...those bastards creates models of how it should be for others...on another side....

You can't hate yourself. You're only one person. Hating yourself would require two seperate entities within yourself that are opposed to each other. Figure out what they are, and then figure out which one is you and which one is being imposed from outside. Rid yourself of the one being imposed. This is hard, but you can do it.

I would start a new life somewhere and rethink my life decisions. Work harder to get somewhere in life and maybe, just maybe then I would love myself. Why do you hate yourself anyway?
