A general question but I would like some feedback. I'm going to be practicing in this area and want to know a little more particulary about NY. Recommendation, tips, etc.

As a lawyer, it can be very lucrative in New York, since they have rent control in some areas, and not in others, there is always a great deal of legal wrangling between landlords that seek to raise rents, and tennants who don't want to pay more.

Bottom line...renters are barely making it...70% of salary goes to housing....landlords are also barely making it....taxes here are LOW, but other costs are astronomical. I say the laws heavily favor the tenants...unfairly I might add.

As a (previous) renter, there is only ONE position for us...on our hands and knees...head down, a s s up, waiting to get it once again.

Face it, you are at the mercy of the landlords, no matter WHERE you are. It sucks, but that's life :-(

I don't know specifically the laws in New York, but the ones in Ontario are becoming more and more skewed in favour of the tenants, including slum tenants.
