When I first starting using tampons the only way for me to insert
it was to lie on the bed with legs bent and relaxed, put a towel under yourself just in case of an accident. I only had to do this for a couple of weeks then It became easier to do. But there is nothing wrong with a sanitary pad. You should never sleep with a tampon in over night, you could be risking yourself to

the best advice i can give you is as follows: choose a tampon that you feel is the comfortable size for you. if you have not used them for a long time then it's good to start with the slimmest size out there. also make sure you relax when inserting it. if you aren't relaxed then it can cause your vaginal muscles to tighten therefore making it uncomfortable or painful for insertion. last but not least, pick a comfortable position. insert it while standing with one foot on the toilet (for example) and when inserting it make sure the applicator is in as far as comfortable for you before pushing the applicator closed to release the tampon in your body. you may even want to try an ob tampon which has no applicator and is inserted with the finger (i know it sounds gross but it is your body) in time you will find whats most comfortable for you. hope this helps.

Sounds like you may need a smaller tampon. They came in slender, regular and super.

The package should have detailed pictures of how to insert it and positions that make it easier. Just be patient -- it make take a few times before you are comfortable with it. It shouldn't hurt !!!

Do not use a tampon if it causes you pain! Use a pad instead> Pain is an obvious sign that it is the wrong size or just plain incompatible!

not trying to put you down or say you don't know what you're doing but maybe you aren't putting it in right if it is causing pain. try pushing it more back [horizontal] instead of going straight up when you insert it. you could also try putting some lubricant on the end of it and maybe that will make it slide up easier!... hope i could help!. Good Luck =)

If it really hurts right at the beginning, you might have an infection. But, if it hurts as though you are just "tight" try as much as you can to relax because if your muscles down there are tight, it won't go in.
