To be the host country of the United Nations certainly gives the United States a very special status as leader of the world community. Over the years the US has gained plenty--and has been able to shape International policy. Please also remember that the UN does much more than Security--it's programs have helped ease starvation, increased education & helped to eradicate diseases (such as polio & smallpox). This nation helped to create the UN and it continues to benefit greatly.

I agree, I believe the UN has outlived their usefulness. I too would like to see them leave. The money we waste giving them can better serve our nation. We can close Gitmo and replace the high paid band of thieves currently occupying that building in NY with other criminals. We would save millions in what it cost us in unpaid parking tickets alone.

i say stay. it is the role of the worlds superpower to lead the way for the world to resovle issues and disputes diplomatically. when diplomacy fails, only military options remain. military options tend to be part of a cycle of violence and do not tend to put an end to them. if you think we pay too much for too little result at the UN, then your question should be more targeted there, in my view.
