I would liken it to eating a huge onion and garlic sandwich while waiting in the dentist's office.

You should not douche; use tampons; vaginal creams, vaginal suppositories, or vaginal medicines; vaginal deodorant sprays or powders; or have sexual intercourse for at least 24 hours before your pap is done. Doing any of the above can screw up the test results and wash away or hide abnormal cells of the cervix, which is the whole point of the test.

You aren't suppossed to do it because it affects the ph or something that might give inaccurate results for your smear
