There was yesterday not half as bad as the size of some normal ants in some other countries, but all that means is tomorrow will be a hot day. Because they hatch when the weather is a certain temperature- a high temp or they stay away till then at least! The next day is always scortching though! Guarentee no rain tomorrow! but Flying ants are the reproductive males and females. They are the mating ants and fly during a few days in July or August. I think then they lay their eggs and their babies are normal ants. They can be rid of by using insecticidal aerosol for flying insects! They get rid of their wings after as they dont need them after a day or so. "Periodically, usually following by 3-5 days a heavy rain" Thats after the sunshine!

They look like beetles because you are seeing the queens hatch. They move away to start a new nest. They are already fertilised and will begin egg laying as soon as they find a suitable site.
The first generation that hatch will help to build the new nest and the whole cyle starts again. Unless you get in there first with a pair of heavy boots, a pressure hose and a steam cleaner.

Are you sure they weren't cockroaches
The heat is making more flying ants appear than normal, the same with spiders & cockroaches. Until we start doing things about global warming to lessen the damage we are doing the insect will get more and more every year

that is such a great question! i live in Virginia (United States) and was driving home with my son today. i noticed a weird looking cloud of bugs working it's way across the street. what struck me is that it was different from any other cloud of bugs i've seen. they weren't gnats or mosquitos. they "flitted" differently and seemed to be somewhat tannish brown.
next thing we know... splat splat splat splat splat splat splat splat splat splat splat splat all over my windshield! what a mess!

I think you are probably seeing termites. They swarm .
I*ve never heard of flying ants. Call an exterminator. You can*t get rid of termites on your own, but they can get rid of your house if they eat on it long enough.

They were probablyants, they leave to set up new nests. the reson they leave en masse is to give them a better chance of survining predation
