Tiff, I'm sorry. I hate them too. However, you don't have to miss out on things like swimming... you know that, don't you? Please talk to your mom or another close friend and have them explain your other options. Trust me, you'll be a lot happier. And I'm pretty sure boys have their own embarassing problems as well. ;-) Bye!

Yeah it sucks!! I hate it too. And when PMS'ing I too ask the same darn question. But dear, it's a natural process the body goes through in order to prepare your uterus to develop a baby. If we didn't have this cycle each month then 1. We wouldn't know that we were pregnant.. LOL (so be grateful you have it.) 2. The chemicals produced by the brain would rush into our bodies so fast and furious that we would go crazy.. really. The brain releases the hormones in which causes the cycle to begin and end. Believe me you don't want to mess with this.. You already experience something like this and I bet it's really annoying. Not to mention you are probably annoying your friends with your changed attitude. Just kidding. That's the way it is.. it's life. And when you start to have kids, you'll appreciate it even though it's totally disgusting.. LOL.
Any boys couldn't handle it. They would faint! heheh.
By the way.. get some tampons. You can use tampons and go swimming too. Just change often. Oh you don't like them.. well maybe your friends can understand and do something else with you.. If not, then they aren't much as friends .. are they?
Hope this helps.

Embrace your femininity, girl! Periods are nature's way to tell us women that we are WAY BETTER than men, because we can give life to another being and they can't. And next time, you don't have to miss out swimming with your friends! Try using a tampon (If you have any doubts about it, talk with your gynecologist about it, and he or she will clear it for you).
Ok, I just read that tampons hurt you... Maybe you're using one kind that is too big for you. Anyway, the blood usually stops when you're in water, so you could swim with your friends if you don't get out of the water. Another option is to wear a thin pad and shorts over your swimming suit.
Oh! I almost forget to tell you this: In my country, when a woman wants to shut down her period for some reason (meaning to stop it for the month before it's proper time), like going to swim or something else, she drinks lots of lemonade, or some lemon juice a day before the event, and it usually makes the bleeding stop.

A little background: women have babies, right? Okay. So each month, your body starts getting ready to have a baby. (This is also why women have wider hips: so we can deliver those eight-plus pound babies!). So the lining of your uterus starts building up a spongy lining of nutrients to take care of that baby it's expecting to be supporting. Through a series of hormones and the way their levels move around (PMS? you got it, this is why-those hormones are going crazy, and it makes you nuts!) your body realizes it's not going to be needing to support a baby, at least not this month. So, it doesn't need that rich lining of blood and nutrients to support it. Guess what happens then? You start your period to expel all that stuff. Boys don't have babies, so they don't need to have a period. I know, kind of a pain, but you'll get used to it. Also--you don't have to miss out on swimming. Try tampons...I'm going to guess you're younger, so they do have junior-sized ones that are smaller. Don't worry--they're not scary and you will get used to them quick...I'm 22 and have used them almost exclusively since I was about 14. Another thing--my mom didn't teach me how. There's an insert in each package that explains them. Just remember---don't point it straight up-point more to the small of your back. Good luck!

Why can't you go swimming? I was on the swim team, and I am a girl? It is a part of Nature. If you ever want to have children, that you are going to have to except having your period. Boys are not lucky like women in that they never get to experience having a baby! That is why you should never question nature!

Girls get periods to flush the womb if pregnancy does not occur during the fertile time. Boys don't have periods because they don't have a uterus to carry a baby in, and a period is shedding the lining of the uterus. Originally, according to the Bible, God punished woman for disobeying his command by saying women will bear children, and periods are part of being a woman ever since.

Why did u miss out on swimming with your friends? Use a tampon. If you can't, use a thicker pad and shorts over your suit and usually you don't bleed in the water. Sorry sweetie!!
PS... boys have much bigger issues than periods... you will learn that later...

Common usage refers to menstruation and menses as a period. This bleeding serves as a sign that a woman has not become pregnant. (However, this cannot be taken as certainty, as sometimes there is some bleeding in early pregnancy.) During the reproductive years, failure to menstruate may provide the first indication to a woman that she may have become pregnant. A woman might say that her "period is late" when an expected menstruation has not started and she might have become pregnant. And boys don't have a place where a baby can come out of.

the ovaries release an egg to your uterus for conception when there is no sperm to make a baby your uterus lining with the egg
releases from the wall of your uterus thus makes bleeding.
that is a period, boys dont have a uterus or ovaries so thats kinda hard for them to have periods. use a tampon and you can still go swimming.
if tampons are hurting you then your not putting them in right
talk to you mom
