Has anyone ever been a temp? Administrative, accounting or mgmt? Actually, any postion with a temp company.... If so, did you hate it, or do you hate it? Why did you hate it? Any comments about temp agencies or the job you had?

I worked as a temp for, 3 days.

I thought it was the most demeaning self-depreciating crap I've ever wasted my time with....just to be honest.

The employers treat you as being disposable, because that's exactly what you are.

I also answered your other question...but didnt mention that I am a temp. I am in the accounts receivable dept so I do that plus admin. I do not want to be a temp forever...im sure no one does, but it has worked out for me while in school. I can make money during breaks and work full time, i learn a lot at each site...the down side is that you basically have to start over again each time. You have meet everyone and get a feel for what you will be doing and then sometimes its over too soon before you are comfortable. Or in some cases not over fast enough and you dred every second you have to be there. So, its hard to be a temp but well worth it for the people who need short term work. I like my agency they are very nice and my placement site is also very good-great people.

temp agencies are a good way to get your foot in the door as most companies only hire thru a temp agency, you are tested and screened for positions, the agency is not gonna send a potential employee to a job that cannot fuffill the requirements needed to do the job. i have worked for several agencies and find there are all mostly the same, there are drawbacks,, no insurance, the length of the contract,, you are employed as a temp not an employee of the company which has both pro's and con's, i plan on returning back to work and will use a temp agency

I was a temp once during college. To say it sucked would be an understatement. This collections (I'm sorry, "revenue recovery") firm needed a large amount of people, so it went to a temp agency and said "we need 80 people on January 1," or something like that. When you're trying to collect on past due accounts, you don't really care who's representing you.

So let's just say I worked with some unsavory people...making only $10 an hour to be verbally abused by irate customers. See my other comment...and get out as soon as possible.

Yes I have.

Mostly did data entry jobs. Hated it, my head would spin after the day was over. I lasted 6 months or so. Some people who like being inside and like admin type work do ok at it. They usually place in a place for a few days, then somewhere else for a week, Then a place for a few years without benefits or raises. Maybe at some point they really hire you, maybe not. My wife is in that sort of limbo now.

Had a temp job awhile back. Most of the time I was stocking soda at a grocery store. The other time I was filing disks at a software company. It was okay as I needed some extra cash.

Do something to supplement your income until you can get your finances in order. You can do this by getting a part time job, finding home employment, or starting a part time business. After your finances look a little better, you can afford to take time off to find another temp job or take time out to take a few classes to get closer to your degree or to get some type of certificate.

Try yahoo groups to find home businesses or employment.

Every job is a temp. No job comes with a life time guarantee.
