usually that early of a pregnancy the fetus is small enough that the body reabsorbs it or expels it, sometimes this doesn't happen and a d&c is nessasary to prevent infection, if this is a serious concern for you, you need to see your doc right away

By definition, miscarriage means that the baby is not viable, that is, the heart has stopped beating. So if you already know that the baby has no heart beat on ultrasound scan, it is already a miscarriage.

However, I think this is what you want to ask: can someone not have "bleeding" if the baby is dead? Yes, it is possible for a mother not to experience bleeding in the early stages of a miscarriage but if leave it long enough, the bleeding will come.
I would advise you to seek your doctor's help in this.

JL is wrong . The Dr. will NOT do a C section if the fetus dies. usually it will come out by itself like a very heavy period. If this doesn't happen, the Dr. will do a D and C which is not really a big deal. However, what makes you think that your baby is not alive. You probably would feel no movement for 4 1/2 mo. anyway.

Usually you will miscarry, but sadly, this isn't always the case. I will say that you aren't alone in your fear, though. Many women wonder if their baby is still alive since they can't feel anything yet. I've known quite a few, myself included, that went into the next doctor's visit scared that they won't find a heartbeat. If this continues to worry you bad enough, you can rent a fetal dopplar from one of many sites and use it to find your baby's heartbeat. This is something best talked over with your doctor first, though. For some of us who can afford it, it's a little bit of security that the baby's alright without having to feel it.

It's a possiability. But, don't get yourself worked up. More than likely if something like that happens you'll miscarry. I just had a miscariage 2 days ago. A few weeks ago I had an ultrasound and every thing looked fine, a strong heartbeat. But if you feel asthough something may be wrong you need to see you're Doctor immediatly. But, like I said don't worry, everything will probably be fine.

If you suspect anything is not right, go to the doctor and the can check the hearbeat. If they cannot detect a hearbeat they will send you for an ultrasound to see if they can see a heartbeat. If they cannot and you are not naturally aborting the baby, they will have to do a D & C. It's not that bad, but not the nicest thing either

Yep. I was 2 months pregnant going by my last period. The sonogram showed a 6 week old embryo. No heart was beating. The next day I finally started to miscarry. My doctor said it happens quite a bit.

I lost a set of twins at 18 weeks gestation. The ultrasound showed they had been dead since the 15th week. Still I did not miscarry. Another week passed and they finally induced my labor. I delivered them entirely and was able to hold them which helped a lot emotionally.
