I've listened to most of the legends (Davis, Armstrong, Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Ellington, Parker, Gillespie, Mingus, Roach, Calloway, etc).

But I don't know of any contemporary jazz artists/bands, other than Kenny G, lol! Can someone help steer me in the right direction.

My favorite instrument is the sax. That's what I played in junior high and high school.

Here goes:

Gerald Albright, David Sanborne, Larry Carlton, Boney James, Chieli Minucci, Michael Manson, Rick Braun, Norm Brown, Waymond Tisdale, Marcus Miller, Candy Dulfer, Joyce Cooling, Will Downing, Brian Culbertson...

Groups:

Charlie Hunter is really good. He plays a custom 8 string guitar.
5 of the strings are guitar, the other 3 are bass. Some times he also can sound like a Hammond B3. Hunter has many cds and is a member of the band Garage A Trois.

Woa! Let me steer you far away from Kenny...! Do you prefer a certain instrument? I've got some trumpet/flugel stuff.. Have you listened to any Guido Basso? I know he and Chase Sanborn did a wicked CD, "Cut to the Chase," and it has a few really nice tunes on it... Chris Botti is a really nice jazz tpt player...his CD "when i fall in love" is amazing. Rick Braun...(rickbraun.com)I haven't listened to much of him, but he sounds awsome! I don't know many recent "giants," but keep lookin and you'll find something great!

There are a lot of great sax players out there right now. Obviously it is hard to compete with the people you listed since they made the music the way it is. Here is a bunch of websites of current pro sax players.
