If you are working your upper back and chest muscles, it is possible to be sore there and also that you may have started a little "too hard", especially if the soreness peaks 1-2 days after exercising. However, if the pain is only there when you are working out and immediately afterwards and then fades away, you should talk to your physician as that area is also the referral pattern for cardiac problems. Make sure you are giving the muscles you are working out adequate rest between sessions (48 hours between working the same muscles) as they need time to repair themselves. Therefore, you could work upper body one day and lower body the next, but can do cardio everyday without causing damage to the body.

Hello there..Pain from exercise is one of two..either muscular pain and thats because you are overdoing it and propably had no warming up exercises before working out..so your muscles starts anaerobic metabolism to get more energy causing accumolation of lactic acid in your muscles..try to take anti inflammatory drugs like aspirin. the other possibility is joints and/or tendons pain..thats because you are practicing wrong and you should stop/modify your training..see ya

The pain is from the muscles that are used for heavy breathing (intercostal). They hurt because you probably haven't used them in awhile.
