They kill a lot of pests in your garden as the vast majority are carnivorous for at least some stage in their life cycle. You may also see them stripping fibres from bits of timber which they chew up and produce beautiful 'paper' nests.
Love 'em or hate 'em they are a biological necessity in any ecological system. - Think of how many more spiders there'd be without the stripey critters!

Wasps don't pollinate flowers, thats Hoverflies.
Wasps hunt flies; they pounce on them then chew off their wings then chew off their head. I made the mistake of watching once.

They make me feel sick and as far as i'm aware serve no purpose whatsoever apart from the food chain! I was thinking exactly the same the other day!
