I'm glad you asked that. It took me a long time to settle into my dream job, not that I could not have done it much sooner, but I didn't know myself well enough to select a career that was just right for me. I am a Certified Indoor Environmentalist, and I test indoor environments for bioaerosols (living things in the air) and potentially hazardous chemicals. Then, it is my job to devise solutions to problems that are often extremely complex.
I am the king of nerds. My favorite t.v. show by far is C.S.I. I get all excited about nasty stuff like Scopulariopsis, which forms arsenic gas when exposed to certain green dye. I suppose I had to mature considerably and come to terms with the fact that I don't have a cool bone in my body. After this amazing revelation (which everyone else already knew) I was able to be myself.
Therefore, I would say to you, get to know yourself before setting your feet in career cement. Who are you really, after you set aside other people's misconceptions, manipulations, and expectations?
What would you do for free, 24/7, if you could? That, my friend, is what you should also do for money!

Unless you have great dedication, want to spend 7 days a week on the job, with 12 hours per day being loaded into it, I strongly suggest you think of another career. Restaurants have the highest failure rate of all businesses. It is very staff dependent, and it will be you to fill in for all those "sick" days called in. Whatever you do, make sure you love doing it...otherwise, any job will be drudgery. If you want to be a chef, then by all means be the best ever. But ... work in anther's restaurant. Let the manager/owner worry about all the problems, you do the cooking and oversight. It will not be long before you are made an offer for your own, but make sure it is a partnership with someone you trust...someone who will do everything BUT the food prep. Be the best you can be and you will never regret it. Good luck

I have a specialized legal office; I am happy with what I am doing, but self-employment can be very stressful especially on the money end. However, even this career can go up and down with the wrong person, as losing a case can sometimes make some of my colleagues very depressed. I've learned this is just part of it; somebody has to lose and sometimes people going in know they are, so they are often more accepting of it than you are. I really would like to find something I can do at home though. I've started writing a number of articles and I am hoping to get a couple of books published soon.

I'm a Realtor (I am in Real Estate). I love my job. I make my own hours. I can do it whenever or however often I want. And it is GREAT money too. (What other job can give you over a hundred thousand dollars in your first year?) You need no higher education and can get your license in three months. If you love money as much as I do. . . GO REAL ESTATE!!
But seriously, I enjoy working with my clients. I love the looks on their faces when they finally move into their new home that I helped them get. I aided them in their dream of owning a home. I am nothing without them. But don't get me wrong, Real Estate is a VERY competitive business and you have to work very, VERY hard to make it work. But the rewards are great if you do.
