Conspiracy - the Marilyn Monroe murder (I believe the theory that RFK and a couple of his men killed her with poison administered via enema - evidence is compelling.)

Mystery - toss up between the Black Dahlia murder and Jack the Ripper.

My personal favorite is how William Randolph Hearst, in conjunction with the federal Bureau of narcotics, criminalized marijuana in an effort to keep himself in the billions.

A machine ws coming out, call the excoriator, that could process hemp stalks into a high-quality, low cost paper that was more durable and needed less processing than tree pulp.

Hearst, with millions tied up in forests, did not want to get undercut, so he printed lurid stories of Mexicans and Blacks, hopped up on weeed and killing everyone with an axe.

It worked.
