Can you just take Series 6 only, or Series 7 only, or series 63 only and go for the exam (are the exams specific to each Series?), and be just limited to that particular knowledge of securities.?

There is no such thing as a "securities sales agent"; there are brokerage representatives (who are required to pass Series 7) and investment advisor representatives (who are required to pass Series 65)

Series 7 is the general securites exam. coupled with a Series 63, it is the minimum license needed to sell Stocks, Bonds, Mutual funds, ETFs etc. The Series 6 lets you sell mutual funds only. It is common among insurance agents who wish to sell mutual funds, variable annuities and variable life insurance. The Series 65 is the registered investment advisor exam which allows you to charge a fee for investment advice.

The Series 7 is the exam that tests your knowledge of the world of investments. You need to pass this.

You'll also need to take and pass the Series 63, which tests your knowlege of securities laws.

If you want to sell things like insurance or commodities, you'll have to take additional tests to become registered in those areas.
