This was a very special piece of jewelry given from one EXTREMELY famous deceased entertainer to another VERY famous musician and megasuccessful songwriter as a gift. So it was sentimental and has incredible provinance attached to it. The reward offered over the radio was $30,000. The owner is worth over $200 million. Plus the bracelet alone was solid 24K gold that was very heavy. I found it by asking total strangers at a rock concert and combing the floor and calling upon "the Force". I looked so hard because of the reward. I feel so screwed. I was only their Prod. Assistant on the tour for a short time. My boss said it was my job, so I was not entitled to the reward. But they would have given it to a total stranger...It's been a few years now, so I doubt I have any legal recourse. You wouldn't believe how famous these two are. I plan on writing him a letter to let him know how I feel, but have no expectations. Oh, and I didn't even get a bonus, a gift or even a thank you card!

I worked for the Production Manager under a subsidary of the bands' corporation. The band had a wardrobe person responsible for their stuff. I was in the office and rarely saw them. To hear it was my job - whose office job description lists finding rarely lost jewelry? I didn't even start to look for the bracelet until the $30,000 reward was offered. Trust me, it's worth millions now due to who gave it to whom.

The 24K bracelet was a gift from Elvis Presley to this performer.

It really depends. Did they specifically give it to you in your job description that you would look for lost things of the band members? I guess its fair, but harsh. They shoulda given you a fraction of the reward if you were doing your job, like half of it or something. Or a bonus or a gift or at least a thank you card. if its really as valuable as you say, then you should be thanked in some way other then "its your job"
But if its not in your job description, then you should be pissed because its NOT your job. You went above and beyond to do something related to your job so you can make some extra movie. Its, in a sense, a form of overtime. You should get paid. really, I suggest complaining about it, but don't sound TOO WHINY. Just say that its not part of your job, and ask them to reconsider not giving you any of the reward money.
The more I think about it, the more stupid it sounds. Its like telling someone who sells lottery tickets they can't win because its part of their job to sell them.
I'm really curious, who are these two people you're talking about. Perhaps email them to me if you don't wanna say it here? Its cool if you wanna keep it confidential though.

What a cheap *** your boss was! Not to mention, dishonest. You should have gotten the reward! This guy being a celeb, he's probably holier than thou, self rightious, and beyond wrong doing, so I feel a letter wouldn't do you any good, but if you're like me, and believe in karma, well then, he'll get what's coming to him. Karma's a *****!

I think you were both right.
Yes, it was your job and you were already being paid to do it- ie:keep track of stuff.
But without you, that piece of jewelry may have never been returned. You deserved something for your effort.
If I had been your employer, you may or may not have gotten the reward, but darn-tootin' you'd have gotten SOMETHING... more along the lines of a bonus or a gift.

I think it's fair. It's your job. If they didn't offer a reward, then people who found it would just keep it. Who are the two celebs??

unless you signed a confidentiality agreement not to say who this piece of poo is, you should let the general public know what type of person he is. At least that might make you feel a little better.
