With a scheduled section, things will be a lot calmer! You be catheterized about an hour before the procedure (if you weren't with your first, don't worry it doesn't hurt...it feels funny (uncomfortable) at first, but you get used to it, and they remove it soon after. They'll also put in the IV, and cap it. Then you wait...my section was pushed back because they had an emergency. Once you get to the OR, they'll help you onto the table, and do the epidural. My first c-section was fine, I didn't feel the epidural, and it went well. Once you're frozen, they'll put up a screen and begin the procedure. It literally takes about two minutes for them to deliver the baby. They'll show you your baby, then either take it to the nursery, or give it to daddy. You'll go to a recovery room. Recovery from the epidural may include the shakes (they'll put a warming blanket on you). or an allergic reaction to the morphine (they'll give you a shot of benadryl). I had both! I was back in my room about 2 hours after delivery, and up and walking in about six hours. Just a note though...I found that the second c-section was more painful than the first while I was healing. I don't know how old your first one is, but be really diligent about not picking them up for those six weeks! Good luck and congratulations!

I have had 2 scheduled c-sections, and its a interesting experience. You are awake in most cases. How they prep you could be different in some hospitals but I'm my case they put on the fetal monitor to get the heartbeat and stats,
then they give you a catheter and IV and depending on the hospital you either walk or they wheel you down to the operating room and you get set up.
Then the anesthesiologists came and gave me a spinal and your pretty much dead from the the chest down, It was a interesting feeling. In both of my cases they put a blue sheet up so you cant see the operation but i have seen it where some women have requested it to be left down so they can watch. All you feel during the operation is a lot of tugging and pulling It really doesn't take that long at all.
After that you go into a recovery room untill you can move your feet (at least with me).
I'm sure someone else will probaly be more detailed but this a basic breakdown of it.

You'll receive an epidural to make you numb from the boobs down. Next you'll be sterilized/cleansed, and draped and then they'll start the procedure at a slightly more sedate rate (though not much - C-sections are pretty basic) than the last. You will feel nothing beyond some tugging or heavy pressure, then you'll see the baby (most doc's show you the baby as soon as its removed from the womb) over the drape, before it's taken to be cleaned. Then it's time to be sutured up and then its off to recovery. Pretty darned simple!
