Ever since I was a little kid, whenever I dream I am being chased, I can never run. It feels like running underwater. And although the dreams are different, that part is always the same.

Those are anxiety dreams. Usually, I think, people have them when they're worried about something happening in their non-dream life.

If you want to get into the metaphor - you want something to happen, to change and you're concerned. You feel like you are trapped in your situation and feel somewhat helpless. You are feeling like what is happening to you should be in your control but isn't.

Let me analyze your dream

When you dream that you are paralyzed or can't run after being chased, that literally means that you are suppressing your feeling to overcome obstacle. In other words, normally people use dreams as a way to escape of reality. However, in your case, you cannot pass that obstacle because you are afraid to break through subconsciously. That shows your personality. You are the person who may have issues with problems. You may have fear in running away from problems. Whenever problems come, when you try to escape from it and you probably have difficulties dealing with them.

You have to learn to face your problem, and deal with it!

I may be wrong, but this is how I see the dream

One way to figure this out is the next time you have a dream like this is to try to turn around and find out what you are running from. Do you recognize your chaser? Or does the situation remind you of something else in your life that remains unresolved? Perhaps, you are avoiding or trying to run from a situation that still needs to be worked through.

"A running dream is basically a dream of escaping a certain situation, person, or thing. If you succeed in running away from, or elude a pursuer, then you will be able to change those things in your life that has you 'on the run'. If you dream of the desire to run but cannot get your feet to obey it shows a lack of self confidence and perseverance on your part. Try sticking to your guns and see how much your life will change."

Dreaming of not being able to run -- means that you have an unresolved conflict going on during the hours that you are awake.
Until this can be recognized and taken care of these dreams will continue.

It might mean you are tied down to something, if you have a problem at work or family etc. I heard that dreams where you are flying mean that you are free, so maybe the opposite means for not being able to run away. I'm no expret though.

Paralyzed
To dream that you are paralyzed, may reflect the current state of your body while you are dreaming. During the REM state of sleep you really are immobile and paralyzed. However symbolically, dreaming that you are paralyzed may mean you are feeling helpless or pinned down in some aspect or circumstances of your waking life. You may feel unable to deal with a situation or that you can't do or change anything. Alternatively, you may feel emotionally paralyzed. You may have difficulties in expressing yourself.
Immobility

To dream that you are immobile, signifies feelings of being trapped or that you are rigid in your attitudes and decisions.

Slow Motion

To dream that you are moving in slow motion, signifies that you are presently going through a hard time and experiencing great stress in your waking life.

If you believe dreams are a window into the subconscious, it means that you are frustrated with your life and you feel you are going nowhere.

All your efforts result in zero gain.

It could mean :
1)No matter how fast you run or how much you avoid something it will always catch up.
2)You are afraid of something that is inevitable (impossible to avoid/prevent/escape/watever)
