It is because they don't have a Constitution that prohibits this type of treatment from the government. We are very lucky in the U.S.A. because a lot of people have fought and died to preserve the liberties that we enjoy. We have a duty to make sure that future generations can enjoy the same freedom. That is why we end up in wars in places like Europe and Japan in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Cold War, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. The governments in power in these countries were and are considered to be a threat to our way of living free. That's why I get pissed off when people criticize the President and the soldiers out there fighting to secure some kind of peace.

If the Iranian people would revolt against their oppressive form of government and work to set up Democracy they could enjoy the same freedoms that we enjoy. They would be in control of their government rather than their government being in control of them.

If the Republicans had everything their way, that's how it would be here too. We've come closer than you think. It horrifies me that the flag burning amendment fell only one vote short of the required majority. That one amendment would have made our government as oppressive as the Taliban.
