Yeah, it's 'a race game played with cards,' and for a while, back in the 70's, it was a minor fad. It was a hip, trendy, cosmopolitan status-displaying mark of the cognoscenti to know and love this profoundly French game. If you quoted Sartre while playing, you were definitely IN, you know? The cards were very colorful, and play was pretty quick, as you would expect in a game that amounts to double (or triple, or quadruple) solitaire.
My mom and my sister liked the game a lot--but I found the play too simple to hold my interest long. I'm tempted to call it 'strategically barren and tactically blunt,' but that would be snotty. It ain't a bad game, but it's not a great game, either.
If you can get four people to sit down with cards, bridge, hearts, spades are all better choices for social interaction. Aside from the familiarity these widely known games have, they have the virtue of simple rules (yes, even bridge has simpler rules than does Mille Bournes) that nevertheless yield rich play.
But if you're a collector of colorful games equipment, Mille Bournes is that. The packaging is lively--very eye-catching--and the contents of the package are, too. It looks like a better game than it is. Even though I would not play the game again without a gun to my head, I would like to replace the game I lost years back. It was a pretty box, however empty I found it.

Yep, I own it and even play it from time to time.
Basically, it's a car race, where you play "milestone" cards to travel 1000 miles. Where it becomes fun is that you can play obstacles on your opponents such as red lights, accidents, flat tires, out of gas...which they must remedy before they can continue driving.
My aunt looked for it recently and found that the game isn't easily available in stores (she couldn't find it at Toys R Us or other such stores). You may have to buy it online.

Yes. We have it actually but I have never played it. My brother says its a race to travel like 2000 miles and there are good and bad cards that hurt and help your progress.
