Turn up the music really loud, get a butterfly net, and prepare to catch yourself some awesome words. You should be able to catch a bucket of words, esepcially if you are playing folk music. However you might go hungry for the night if you are playing techno

Tee hee...
Well, you probably didn't know what to look for or where to look (doesn't appear you even knew how to ask).
As far as I can tell, what you want to do is remove the *vocals* from a pre-recorded song?
Well, check here http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/ specifically the "Karaoke" section; for different operating systems, there's various utilities that can attempt this with ..an iffy amount of success. Sometimes, you may get the vocals more *reduced* than completely eliminated; other times, vocals might not be the only thing removed.
Most often times you hear creating mixes with instrumental tracks to popular songs, someone has/had access to the actual instrumental and didn't have to extract it from, say, an mp3 file.
I hope complete success is yours.
