There are many reasons it is worth being nice.
Its a heck of a lot easier to be nice than to be mean.
Maybe someday just one nice person or face may give you courage to believe in people.
If we can't believe in each other this is going to be a very depressing and dismal place to live.
Yes there are many that are unkind or evil, but we can not and must not assume all are like this.
Lastly it is said what good is done to another is returned to you two-fold.

I try to be nice to everyone, sure feels better then being mean. However, I have no problem pulling the mean trigger to people who show themselves to be deserving of that treatment as well.

When in doubt, be nice, save your mean for when it matters.

It's just the decent thing to do. Plus if you're nice to people then you probably feel good about yourself. People who are mean and say hateful things about others tend to really hate themselves.

Being nice, rather than mean or rude, makes me feel like a nice person as opossed to being or mean person.

So you won't end up a gnat in your next life.

That and so you won't eventually piss someone off that will eventually maim or kill you if you.

So that someone will love you or want to be your friend. No one wants to be a friend to someone who hates them or doesn't respect them enough to be polite.

They might have something you want, they are more likely to give it to you if you are nice to them.
