Is That Bad If It Sheds Alot?

Actually, shedding can depend on a number of factors: the breed, the season, the temperature, and stress. (among other things) Some rabbit breeds do shed a lot. My dwarf-mix rabbit sheds a lot, though only during certain seasons. Right now, she's shedding, so she's shedding more fur than normal. My tiny netherland dwarf, however, hardly sheds at all (which is good because he hates when I groom him).

If you are concerned, call your vet and get an opinion. I wouldn't bring your rabbit in, though, unless there are bald spots or your rabbit seems to have skin irrritation. Are the pellets the normal size and color and consistency as they normally are? Is the rabbit behaving like it normally does?

I would also advise you buy some Papaya tablets. Most House Rabbit Societies sell them. These are natural ingredients that most rabbits love, that help break down fur in the stomach that the rabbit ingests while grooming itself. Papaya tablets are particularly important during shedding times, so the stomach doesnt develop a hairball. Rabbits can't "cough up" hairballs like cats do, so these supplements help them a lot.

Good luck, hope this helps!

No. If it has hair, its going to shed. My rabbit sheds so much I'm surprised it doesn't suffocate in its own fur (I brush it and everything but it continually sheds).
The weird thing is that my rabbit never looks like she is losing any fur at all yet when I brush her I get enough hair off of her to make a sock lol.

I've owned this rabbit for 8 years and it has pretty much been shedding the entire time and she's been perfectly healthy!

Some bunnies are more prone to shedding than others. Also, at certain times of the year, they molt, and change coats. For my bunnies this happened in the summertime, they'd look terrible with huge tufts of fur all over the place that were starting to fall out but not quite ready to do so.
Just keep them brushed, they enjoy that, and take a look at the skin underneath. If it's pink and healthy, they're probably fine.

Rabbits shed about four times a year, two are very heavy. If your rabbit has bald patched bring it to a vet.

It isn't really bad if your rabbit sheds a lot, it's their way of losing that winter fluff in this heat. You might want to consider if she's pulling the hair out herself and making a nest in her hutch, if so then congrats, she might be getting ready to drop a liter of bunnies.

No just as long as it isn't getting bald spots, then there would be a problem. Just try to brush your rabbit more often.

No, especially during the summer months. The keep cool that way. Unless they are getting bald spots it is ok.
