many times pop ups come on saying that. pay no attention to it. I sometimes get them, don't open anything that you are not sure of. be careful. even email that you don't know who it is from, don't open it

Don't click it! Norton can't detect it because its not a virus, its adware. An anti virus is no good.
You need Ewido anti trojan and Ad-Aware SE Personal. Run them both in Safe Mode.
Remember to turn off System Restore as it will be hiding in there and will re-install itself.
To get into safe mode, repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads, if you don't manage it first time just restart and try again.
Safe mode looks very different and not all your programs will load but don't worry, its supposed to do that. The screen will run at 800 x 600. The scans will take a bit longer so just leave it to get on with it.

Get rid of norton for a start!!!!

Sounds like 1 i had last night called SpyQuake2, a really bad one when i tried to uninstall a program. An icon kept popping up telling me to download a spyware remover hahaha I think not!!

Took a couple of hours to get rid of it. Had a rating of TAC rating of 10 on AdAware.

What exactly does the Icon say? Dont install anything that pops up and dont panic, there's enough info on the net to get it sorted. My antivirus didn't pick it up either. Just the icon that alerted me to it.

Do not install anything. This is called Extorsion Ware. They Infect your computer and then sell you a program that does nothing. You will need to remove this Malware using other sources. There is a reason Norton can't remove it. The Virus hides part of its program in hidden areas of your computer that Norton or other AV/AS programs can't get in and scan and remove. It does remove the most of it, then the hidden parts download the Virus again.

The removal of these products can be easy on some occasions. If you know the name of the Malware (usually the AV/AS program you use will tell you this, sometimes the malware itself will tell you its name) is the most important part. This name can be put into Google Search or Yahoo Search and a list of sites will be displayed that deal with the particular type of Malware. Any time you post on any site needing help with one of these, be sure to post the correct name (exactly as shown by the AV/AS program). It is also very important to know the difference in the types of Malware. Not all infections are Viruses. There are Viruses, Trojans, Spyware and Adware. There are thousands of programs of each catagory out there on the net. Later I will list a site you can go to and read and learn about this. It is important to protect your computer and you personally.

Since I know almost nothing, about your infection, I'm going to give you a list of things to do.

First. Go to Java and make sure you have the newest Version of Java. This is Update 7. Most people still have Update 6. After downloading this go to Add/Remove Programs and remove all other versions of Java. You do not need them and you can still be infected due to their weaknesses.

http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_ie.jsp

Second. Go to this site and run the online scan. Do the complete scan for Virus and (as they call it) Grayware. This can take some time depending on how much is on your computer. When finished scanning it will present you with a page of what it finds. Select all it finds for removal. Once on this site, turn off the Norton AV program to prevent any conflict between the two AV's. Turn it back on, once you are completely done.

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

For any Malware that this site did not remove, write down the complete and accurate names, then go to this site. Be sure you keep the list and know which are Viruses, Trojans, Spyware, Adware. At this site is a procedure you will follow to get to all the hidden areas of the computer. She will walk you through it and it's easy to understand. Although she is using AS programs, you can use this same procedure using your Nortons AV program, instead of the AS programs.

Run the AS programs she lists first. Then do the same procedure with your AV program.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/community/columns/bugbusting.mspx

You noticed that she listed 2 Registry repair programs. The removal of malware damages the Registry when the entries are removed. The Malware usually attaches its programs Registry entries to existing valid entries. If using any other OS other than XP (98,ME etc) use Lfix. For XP use the second one and run it to repair your Registry.

Hopefully whatever you have is gone by now.

Go to Microsoft and Download the Windows Defender Beta 2 AS program. It is very good and can remove Viruses if the Spyware is incorporated within the Virus.

Next go here and read about this program. I use and love it. It has stopped many Infection attempts and has found and removed infection that was on my computer when I first downloaded it. It works with your AV and AS programs and will not conflict with them. It will cause the Scan times of your AV/AS program to be longer. I am willing to have this for the additional protection. I haven't been infected in over 7 months. Prior to that is was at least once a week (and seemed like a daily basis) that I got Malware infections.

http://www.novatix.com/Home.aspx

This is the site that will teach you alot about what you are facing on the Net. You will learn and be able to make an informed decision about how to best protect your computer and yourself and family. This was the first step I used and still go back and read at least once a month.

http://www.internetinspiration.co.uk/computer_privacy_and_security.htm

Do not go to the Nodeware site. These people get paid for directing you there and then they steal personal data off it during the scan. It is Bogus.

If you are still infected then email at this address. Be sure to put the names of the infections. I will then be able to assist you removing specific infections.

agrondizer2000-mike@yahoo.com

By the way, this is an AddressGuard email address, so If I start getting spam etc. I can just delete it and all will stop.

Hi, First of all install adaware and spybot, you can get them from download.com they are free. download and install and get the updates, and run a full system scan. The instructions are easy to follow.
You must have updated your norton anti-virus. try to run the scan again.
I had a similiar problem, it got solved by doing this.
Good Luck

Maybe its just a popup window in internet explorer. don't click on the icon or window as this can lead you to getting a virus, installed spyware and adware. make sure nav is updated, download a program called lavasoft ad-aware, update it and scan your computer for ad-ware :)

That happened to my friend too. I suggest to remove Norton Antivirus and get a new one like a NOD 32.

I'm not sure about what exactly you're trying to say but it might be a prank. If its a pop up saying that then its probably the site trying to get you to buy their anti virus software. don't listen to the first answer that is bogus.

It sounds to me like adware. Somethings been installed on your hardrive that wants to make you think you have a virus, to scare you into buying their product. Delete your temporary internet files and see if this helps. If not, go to www.pcworld.com and search for anti-spyware products. You can download them for free. Spy-bot search and destroy and Ad-Aware SE Personal are both very effective and free.
