My sister (a teenager) likes Meg Cabot and Megan McCafferty books. She also liked The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (one of my favorite books as a teen, too).

I'd recommend a teen try Richard Paul Evans, Ann Tatlock, Lois Lowry, or Irene Hunt.

Instead of asking for good reading randomly like this it would be a better idea to join bodies like Young Adults Service Association who compile every year a list of books for teenages on various subjects after consulting knowledgable persons . Firstly the opinions of the like of us may reflect only our personal choices which may be biased. They may also be dated .The concept of teenage reading has undergone and is undergoing changes and it is advisable to keep up with the times.

For girls, I always loved Judy Blume for her blunt honest portrayal of preteens and younger teens. Or Laurie Halse Anderson is really good too.
