Take some puzzles or a magazine. Take snacks. Take a pillow so you sleep comfortably if you feel like it. Eye spy is an old favorite although it gets boring quickly. Take music. Use the time to ponder the answers to the great questions in life. Count roadkill. Count red cars. Take a book as long as you can read without getting car sick. You could knit. Be creative. And it depends on who you're travelling with but it could be a chance to find out lots of things you didn't know about that person, even if it is a parent. Take turns at saying your favorite things, movie, book, celebrity, colour, item of clothing, tv programme. It will stimulate conversation too. Good luck, I hate long car rides too.

Books on tape or CD always make a long car ride bearable. You can actually "rent" audio books from Crackerbarrel restaurant. You pay the retail price for the audio book, then you can return it to ANY Crackerbarrel restaurant, and get a refund minus $3.00 or so per week you keep it. If you don't return it, you've already paid for it. This is a very handy program for those who travel a lot.

If you are able to read in the car, get magazines, books, puzzles/mind teasers, if you have a portable dvd player or can borrow one then you can watch movies. Otherwise buy the travel pills that will make you drowsy and you can sleep the whole time.
