Painkillers don't really work on a sore stomach. Either way, I cannot imagine how a pure painkiller would be harmful during menstruation unless it was harmful to you in some other way such as something that has a blood thinner associated with it for some strange reason.

I wonder why you might have this concern? If you feel the soreness is related to the menstruation that's a different issue. In that case a painkiller might help since it is the cramping of the uterus that is the source of the discomfort. Unfortutunately, the contractions are that powerful that even a muscle relaxant probably wouldn't work as expected.

I would talk to your doctor, especially if he has a history on you.

No i don't think so as long as if isn't an addictive one. The thing I have found that works great is Tylenol PMS they put out one especially made for us during this time. You need to make suer it is due to you period and nothing else. The only one I have ever taken is Midol and its works good to but my favorite is the tylenol one. Just be careful if it last for more than 2-3 days I would go in just to make sure it's not due to anything mroe serious. I knew a girl that had severe stomaches and found out she had endimetrious (SP?). Good luck .

If you are talking about cramps.. It depends on the pain killer. All are potentially harmful if taken either too often, or in too high of amounts. Also, so have a high addiction potential. So be careful and watch the dosages as well as the kinds of pain killers you are using. Midol is one thing, Oxycotin is something entirely differnt.

No its not harmful....but it would be best if you took a tylenol before your menstrual cycle starts...I always advice my 17 yr old daughter to take 1 aspirin...aspirin is a blood thinner and it helps to alleviate the pain she goes thru..We are all different women with different needs...what works for some wont work for others...Try out some meds and see what works for you...Good Luck.

I agree with Meg. Ibuprofen is the best. You can get a name brand like Midol, or just look for the generic store brand.. normally much cheaper and it really really works.

I would not advise Tylenol. Acetaminophen (okay, i cant spell that) doesnt work at all for me. And heat on the cramps are great to soothe them..

As long as you don't have any health problems or any other medications you are on that are contraindicated, it shouldn't be harmful. For cramps, I always took the recommended dosage of ibuprofen (advil or motrin). These medications relax the muscles which are cramping and causing your pain. Hope you feel better soon!

Yes, it can react with your stomach acid at that time of the month and induce a heavier flow for up to 7 days.

If you're having menstrual cramps, the best pain medication to take for them is an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen. You can buy this in any drug store.
