Wheat and malted barley. Named by Charles William Post because grape sugar was formed during the baking process and he described the taste as having a nutty flavor. The cereal was introduced in 1897.

It's a Post cereal, not a Kellogg's cereal.
It's called Grape Nuts because the little pieces of cereal look like the seeds inside grapes, if you take the seeds out and clean the grape flesh off them and dry them out. But don't try to find grape seeds in a 'seedless' grape variety like the Tompson Seedless!

I believe it is some sort of grain product. There are indeed neither grapes, nor nuts in it. I saw a show on the history channel about cereal once that explained the name, but I don't recall what it said.
