I am a freshman nursing major this fall at u mass Dartmouth and my question is should I get a desktop or a laptop for classes. I will be living on campus and don't plan on using a computer to take notes in class. Pros or Cons likes or dislikes please let me know.

I only had a desktop at college. Laptops are more expensive and they're harder to fix than regular desktops. There are advanteges though to using a laptop, as you can take it to the school library or elsewhere on campus to work on a paper and do research when the other computers are occupied. I'm sure that at a school like yours, there will be a lot of people in the library studying at one time. However, you may be able to take out a laptop for a short time from the library - that's something my college did.

I can't really say what's best as I never went to your school but if you're not using it to take notes with you in class, consider getting a desktop. They're cheaper and the newer ones are more compact. Laptops are space savers but if anything breaks on it, you may not be able to replace it easily.

I hope that made sense.

As a college student, I'd reccomend the laptop. It takes up less space in your dorm room, plus you can haul it to the library or where ever to study and write papers when you need to. A laptop is an even better choice if your campus has an extensive wireless network!

I have a laptop (I am a senior at Texas A&M) and I could not imagine having a desktop again! The first 3 years of college I did not have a laptop. It restricted where I could study...if dorms were loud I would have liked to have gone to sit out by the Century Oak. Also, you won't have to worry about anyone messing with your pc if it is with you.
