My husband and I will be staying in 4 & 5 star hotels in Cairo and Luxor. How dressy need we be for the restaurants in these hotels?
Anyone been there?

You do not need to be dressy. Casual & smart casual is the most common dress code in 4 & 5 star hotel restaurants.

Dress standards in 4 and 5 star restaurants are the same just about anywhere in the world... Jackets' and ties' for men, proper evening gowns or even a very nice dress for women. Just because it's Egypt doesn't mean you can go for dinner in shorts and tank tops... which you really souldn't be wearing, anyway... The Middle East is not Fort Lauderdale, so Americans should dress appropirately.

I visit Egypt regularly. Four and five star hotels usually have fancy restaurants. You, however, are tourists and no one really expects tourists to be over-dressed. You can get away with a nice pair of black slacks and cute top. You'll note that the locals seem waaaaay over-dressed compared to you because they'll also have gone out to have their hair done, makeup, etc. because only the elite can afford to eat in restaurants in good hotels.

You'll want to take a few comfortable but elegant items with you- just in case.
