It just depends on how far along the pregnancy is, and whether the doctors think things are progressing like they're supposed to. Most docs don't like to interfere in a miscarriage unless something is going wrong. If you had spiked a fever or they wanted to do genetic testing on the fetus, then they will do a d&c to obtain tissue or to get rid of the tissue that's causing the infection.

It depends on how far along you are. It would be right for you not to have a DNC at 6 1/2 weeks, but to possibly have one at 13 weeks.

A dnc is to remove any residual tissue that is left in the womb after a miscarriage - important to be done to avoid infections.

They would have scanned your womb at the time of your first mc and assessed that a dnc did not need to be done.

I had one back in April & I didn't get a dnc either, but I've been told it is important if you are over a month along. I'm not sure, but the reason I didn't get a dnc is because I don't have insurance. I am glad for you that you recieved one the 2nd time. It worries me that I didn't. & I am truly sorry for your loss. I know how it feels after one. Best wishes.

the doctor will advice you if you need a dnc. I did not need one and everything was fine. But I think it depends on the type of miscarriage you have. They will advise you. Sorry about the miscarriages...

You only need a D&C if there is stuff left behind in the womb. Like pieces of the fetus/embryo. If the miscarriage was clean and everything came out, then you won't need a D&C.
