Because kids own the market...ughh. And once the media and these stupid kids label them something, the ball stats rolling. I mean I think it is stupid too. I wanted to punch out every kid that went around saying "OMGz! Simple Plan is so punk". The ideals and sense of punk is lost. Everything is bubblegum infused and the name of punk is being ruined. I bet if you went up to any kid with a goddamn goodCharolette shirt and started talking about real punk (SexPistols Ramones) they would just play along and not know a real thing about them. We must live with teh fact that what is labeled punk is 'mainstream' and maistream is garbage.

I dont know why do they classify ramones and sex pistols as some of the best punk rock bands ever when they were the ones who ruined the scene with the antics of each and the arrogant words from both thinking that they started the genre of music that started over 10 years prior by the fugs and velvet underground. Personally the punk rock era ended with sex pistols and ramones and this new age punk music is pop music with an angst ridden lead.

punk wasn't supposed to be a style of music it was supposed to be a way of life and bands like the ramones and the pistols personified that lifestyle.

In my opinion punk isn't even really punk anymore. Just appreciate the music for what it is and don't really worry about the labels that people apply to bands. If you like it great, if you don't, don't listen to it.

dude, it's all about MTV. it's not even so much that they consider that crap punk. they don't know what punk is. i guess you could call it an evolution in music. but the reality is that MTV has influenced a generation of people inot think certain things are good, just because they're on tv. when really, they aren't any good. most of those bands you'd have to figure at this point don't even write their own stuff. but what can you do? unless you can write and play music and are in a band that is prepared to unleash some quality on this generation of tainted MTV lovers.

Because people like New Found Glory placed bands like the sex pistols in high regard many people began to mistake their music for that of their idol. Thus caused outrage amongst the music community.

It's just a new generation of punk I guess. It's probably considered more hip hop punk than acutal punk. I really don't know. I just think our tastes and our way of thinking is evolving into something else. Society adapts to what's new and gives it a name. Only call it punk if you feel like it is. There's no real answer to what is or isn't.
