I happen to live here. It has changed a lot in the past few years. It is growing fast. It still has some country parts if that's what your looking for. The schools are better than inside the city limits. If you really want country you may want to go further out. If your wanting city mixed in Katy is great. The Cinco area is a little more upscale and Old Town Katy is a little more layed back. I-10 does suck at certain times of day that is for sure. The police department is very on the ball in Old Town Katy and the kids can't get away with much ( 2 teens)! So far so good for us! Good luck! P.S.-Football is a religion here..Just a warning!

I am born and raised it Texas! I live in Fort Worth and I love it!!!! The people in Texas are super friendly here, the food is awesome and there are a million things you can do for fun, plus you are about 10-30 min. from Dallas. Dont forget the kick a** accents, ya'll here me??? The down side is that some places are real ghetto, Stay away from the oak cliff in Dallas. And if you can't handle the heat, then get out of the kitchen....... lol it is 105 right now super super hot... But to be honest you know the saying "Everything is Bigger and Better in Texas, and that is soooo true! I hope you enjoy Texas as much as I have. P.S. Stay away from the small towns...weird phycos are there, stay in the city's.....Does Texas chainsaw massacre ring any bells? It is based on a true story....

Pros: Safe. Really safe.
Nice stuff like malls, water parks, golf courses (eww but whatev) etc.
good place to raise a kid
Don t have to deal with all the bad parts of living in a city (white flight anyone?)
Texas is kinda nice if you re into BBQ and accents and nice state parks
Cons.
boring. boring as all hell.
An hour to Houston for anything fun, worse with traffic. Also, Houston is kind of a **** town.
You have a higher cancer rate than many other places in the country bc of the energy corridor.
The state government is full of idiots.
It s hot and humid as all hell. Mosquitos have west nile, Zika, Dengue and exploding Monkey Pox (3/4 are true)
Conclusion: Don t ever live here unless you have
A: a job dependent on the oil industry
B: Money
C: 2.5 kids

Katy is a pretty nice area west of Houston. The fact that you live outside Houston as far as traffic is a plus but not a big one as Katy is pretty much going to be swallowed whole by Houston. Still not a bad place at all.
